Speakers on for music

I searched the house over,
a shoe box I had to find,
I must have it for school,
the teacher I must mind.
I found one in the closet,
it was crushed on one side,
I figured it would have to do,
maybe the bad side I could hide.
I took it to school the next day,
it's bad side next to me,
I hoped I could keep it hid,
I prayed no one would see.
The other kids had nice boxes,
none looked as old as mine,
but it was the only one I had,
so I'd fix it up just fine.
I couldn't wait till Art Class,
when the boxes would be changed,
covered with red construction paper,
on this, white lace would be arranged.
I made a lot of red hearts,
glued them where the box was laced,
I cut a slot in the very top,
where Valentines would soon be placed.
The teacher walked by my desk,
when saw my poor box's side,
she smiled and handed me a small board.
to fix what the paper couldn't hide.
I removed the lid and placed the board,
now my box was no longer crushed,
I looked up at my teacher,
I knew my face was red flushed.
She said my box was beautiful,
as she placed it on the Valentine Day
table,
then she added a piece of paper,
I saw it was my name label.
The next day my box was full,
so many Valentine cards were there,
I was so proud of my pretty box,
it's story I often share.
I still have that old box,
to remind me what can be done,
when someone stoops to help a child,
so no one will ever make fun.
